At lunch today my friend Ana told me about a song called “Praan” by Gary Schyman. The song is used in one of the videos from the “Where the Hell is Matt” video series. The lyrics are from the poem The Stream of Life by the Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore. Below, you’ll find the video for where the song is used, but before you check it out, I leave with the English translation of the poem used for the song. Enjoy.

Stream of Life
by Rabindranath Tagore

The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day
runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures.

It is the same life that shoots in joy through the dust of the earth
in numberless blades of grass
and breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers.

It is the same life that is rocked in the ocean-cradle of birth
and of death, in ebb and in flow.

I feel my limbs are made glorious by the touch of this world of life.
And my pride is from the life-throb of ages dancing in my blood this moment.

Wow, I can’t believe how quickly this year has gone by. It seems like yesterday that I was celebrating New Years and now Christmas is only 2 weeks away.

Speaking of holidays, this past Thanksgiving reminded me of how much I have to be grateful for. I have been blessed with awesome and patient friends, supportive family, good health, all of my basic necessities and then some, and a job that helps me pay bills and provides me with many opportunities to learn about myself. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

In addition to being grateful for my blessings, I have also made the following 3 realizations about building friendship with men:

If I just meet a guy and start falling for him, maybe what I’m falling for are the character/physical attributes he has that I would want in a future husband.

Upon considering Realization #1, I should make a running list of these attributes.

If after Realization # 1 & 2 I still have warm and tingly feelings for this new guy, then I should be careful not to quickly throw my heart at him. Instead, I could consider allowing the relationship to naturally develop into what it’s meant to become.

The three realizations above seem so simple, yet it’s amazing how many women I meet who never take the time to consider any of them, especially # 2 and #3 – and I have been guilty of this before myself. After applying the three realizations above, I find that I have so much more clarity and my friendships are full of depth while being light and fun.

On that note, I will leave you with the words of one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite Disney movies, “Rodgers And Hammerstein’s Cinderella”. This song was sang by both Cinderella and the Prince while they danced the night away. Enjoy and Happy Holidays.

——————————–

Do I love you because you’re beautiful,
or are you beautiful because I love you?
Am I making believe I see in you
a girl too lovely to be really true?

Do I want you because you’re wonderful,
or are you wonderful because I want you?
Are you the sweet invention of a lover’s dream
or are you really as beautiful as you seem?

Am I making believe I see in you
a man too perfect to be really true?
Do I want you because you’re wonderful,
or are you wonderful because I want you?

Are you the sweet invention of a lover’s dream
or are you really as wonderful as you seem?

——————————–

Since I last posted, quite a bit has happened in my life. For one, I lived to see the first African-American man be elected as the 44th President of the Unites States of America. Witnessing President Barack Obama give the acceptance speech was one of the proudest moment of my life. I felt as if I were watching my own son. I’m sure the next 4 years are going to be challenging, but I have faith that he can and will move this country in a positive direction.

On the same day as election day, I also recieved my Gohonzon, an object of devotion in Nicherin Buddhism. I was introduced to this form of Buddhism by my friend Ricardo weeks prior and haven’t turned back since. As time goes by, I will share more about what I’m learning. In the meantime, you can click here to learn more.

Last but not least, I’ll leave you with the lyrics to one of my favorite songs from the early ’90s. These words describe some of what I’ve been experiencing lately. Until next time…

——————–
Save the Best for Last
sung by Vanessa Williams
——————–

Sometimes the snow comes down in June
Sometimes the sun goes round the moon
I see the passion in your eyes
Sometimes it’s all a big surprise
’cause there was a time when all I did was wish
You’d tell me this was love
Its not the way I hoped or how I planned
But somehow it’s enough

And now we’re standing face to face
Isn’t this world a crazy place
Just when I thought our chance had passed
You go and save the best for last

All of the nights you came to me
When some silly girl had set you free
You wondered how you’d make it through
I wondered what was wrong with you

’cause how could you give your love to someone else
And share your dreams with me
Sometimes the very thing you’re looking for
Is the one thing you can’t see

But now we’re standing face to face
Isn’t this world a crazy place
Just when I thought our chance had passed
You go and save the best for last

Sometimes the very thing you’re looking for
Is the one thing you can’t see

Sometimes the snow comes down in June
Sometimes the sun goes round the moon
Just when I thought our chance had passed
You go and save the best for last

You went and saved the best for last

I haven’t completely abandoned this blog, but I am taking a break from blogging
consistently for a while. I’ll update here and there to keep you posted on any new developments. Once I find the time to redo this site like I originally intended, regular blogging will start up again..

I have been dealing with a lot of personal dramas, one of which I wrote a little poem about. I normally don’t write poetry, but I was up most of the night and felt this intense desire to share my experience with others. This is the first poem I’ve written in years, so keep that in mind as you read this. Peace.

——————————-

Temptations
by Natasha Pierre-Louis

Your are so beautiful,
Why didn’t I notice you before?
You are delightful,
Your presence moves me to the core.

I want to touch you,
but that probably wouldn’t be fair.
You don’t belong to me,
your owner’s standing over there.

But I don’t mean no harm,
I have no intent to steal…
No need to sound the alarm,
I simply wanted you to feel…

I promise I won’t take
something that doesn’t belong to me.
I promise I won’t break
someone else’s property.

Alas, I better go,
The temptation to steal you is so strong
That person doesn’t know
but my intentions are so wrong.

Maybe one day you’ll be
free to come home and live with me.
Till then we’ll wait to see
if you are truly my destiny.

A friend from work suggested I watch an interview that Oprah had with
Jon Kabat-Zinn and the interview was awesome. During their conversation,
the following poem was mentioned and all I can say is, “Wow”.
Very simple, yet profound. Enjoy.

Love After Love

The time will come
when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other’s welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.
